Created for Frank and Joy: a Love Story Exhibition 2023
'No need for a grand ceremony. Arthur was the best man and Marjorie was Joy’s Maid of Honour, as well as the cake maker. The dress was hand-made for someone. Frank’s suit had been previously occupied by a man who, though unknown, had the good grace to be of
a similar size before he swapped it for a wooden one. The reception spread was a wedding gift: cheese and home-made pickle sandwiches, brawn and best dripping, sausage rolls and pork pies – a humble buffet of banquet proportions. Invited guests and lucky passers-by got to raise a glass and toast the happy couple to a blessed future full of love yet unknown, adventures to be lived, health, wealth, and the good fortune to bring another life into this world to share their love. They started their journey together on a wing and a prayer. The only way was up. They had nothing to lose and more than enough love to win.'
