Created for the Exhibition: A Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee

'If I ever took sandwiches in for school dinner, it would be whatever my dad or my brothers had for their own pack-up at work. The roulette of fillings went from your common-or-garden cheese and onion, to boiled ham and brown sauce, to a more exotic black pudding with mustard, or maybe haslet, or, if I was really unlucky, tongue, which I made sure was disguised with plenty of brown sauce. My sarnies were wrapped up in a Fletcher’s bread bag.

Shame on anyone on a school trip who had egg mayonnaise sandwiches in a Tupperware box. Opening that bad boy on a coach is an act of chemical warfare.'
