Created for the Exhibition: A Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee

'One day, there I was running around the estate, playing football,scrambling up walls, jumping off garages and building dens, when – Boom!– I heard a song that stopped me in my tracks and turned my world upsidedown. It made me question who I was and what I was doing. It made mewant to discover who they were and what they wore. It made me ask howI could be like them. It made me thirst for more: who else was like them?Then I discovered other kids like me who felt the same: I belonged tosomething – and that something belonged to me.'
