Mega Hold Hair Gell

Created for the Exhibition: A Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee

'No invention in the latter part of the twentieth century had a bigger impact on my life than Mega Hold hair gel. Purchased from John’s hardware store on the Jordanthorpe shops, this unassuming tub of green gloop instantly transformed me from a spotty lank-haired youth into a spotty firm-haired rebel. At last! Now I could shape my hair into something resembling a style. I would cake it on and comb it back into a kind of gel helmet. Halfway through the day, once it had dried, I would crack open the gel casing to reveal a bouffant of glorious proportions. From that first purchase in 1981, not a day has gone by when I’ve not shoved something into my hair help to breathe life into my listless mop.'
