Live And Let Die

Created for the Exhibition: A Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee

'We went to the pictures quite a bit, mostly to see Disney films. Dumbo was a traumatic experience. I remember sobbing my eyes out when Dumbo’s mum gets chained up and has to comfort Dumbo through the bars of her cage with her trunk. One thing we never did, though, was see a film more than once. At least not until Live and Let Die. 

It was Roger Moore’s first outing as Bond, and the most memorable scene for me was when he used hairspray as a flamethrower to kill a snake. It was fine, though I wouldn’t have said it really warranted a second viewing. Nevertheless, one morning my dad said that some auntie who I’d never heard of was going to take me to the pictures that day to see Live and Let Die again. I was surprised, to say the least, but I wasn’t going to turn down the prospect of eating sweets and watching Bond have a rematch against Mr Big. So off I went.

It wasn’t until I returned home to find a house full of strangers dressed in black that I understood why.'
