Created for the Exhibition: A Boy with a Leg Named Brian: Memoirs by Pete McKee

'I have no memory of my mum telling me that she loved me. That’s not meant to be a shocking statement: I just don’t have enough memories of our time together. But I do have this photograph. A simple snap from a seafront photo booth on Blackpool’s Golden Mile. A split second in time, frozen forever. It is indisputable evidence that we loved each other – her eyes shining with joy and me acting the goat. A year later she would no longer be in my world, but neither of us knew that at the time.'
